I am coming to Palestine!

Next year in the Holy Land! Or in my case, this coming July.

Thanks to the help of the head of my Political Science department, I am taking a volunteer position at Birzeit University in the West Bank (heres the [link] if you’re interested). It’s a university north of Ramallah, which is north of Jerusalem in the Palestinain Territories if you don’t know. I will be working at the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies in program and conference development, lecturing and designing workshops. I have no idea exactly what I will be doing, but I am excited as hell.

I am leaving for the area most likely July 15th, depending on the work I can get before my formal position at the University begins, which starts September 1st. I am going to be living at the university or the town for at least 10 months. Needless to say I am excited as all hell. I am looking forward to enveloping myself in the culture, learning the language, and exploring the area. I am going to be photographing everything in sight which I can’t wait for!

I’ll keep you guys posted on my status. If your in the area give me your contact information, I want to meet as many people and make as many contacts as possible!

There is no Baudrillard

"Deep down, no one really believes they have a right to live. But this death sentence generally stays tucked away, hidden beneath the difficulty of living. If that difficulty is removed from time to time, death is suddenly there, unintelligibly."

''We are not... in danger of lacking meaning; quite the contrary, we are gorged with meaning, and it is killing us.''

Jean Baudrillard (1929-2007)
